Japan Steel’s Order Intake Rises by 2.7% in May

Japanese steel makers’ carbon steel order receipt increased by 2.7% to 6.851 million tonnes in May from a year earlier, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Thursday. The demand increased by 1.1% to 4.84 million tonnes from domestic buyers and increased by 6.7% to 1.874 million tonnes for export. The order from domestic manufacturers increased by 2.5% to 2.052 million tonnes in May from a year earlier. The demand increased by 2.3% to 1.012 million tonnes for automobile, by 8.1% to 230,000 tonnes for industrial machinery and by 1.5% to 459,000 tonnes for shipbuilding. The demand decreased by 1.7% to 169,000 tonnes for electric machinery. The domestic construction order increased by 1.3% to 1.159 million tonnes in May from a year earlier. The demand increased by 14.5% to 283,000 tonnes for civil works while the demand decreased by 3.5% to 651,000 tonnes for building.
