Marubeni Receives Vietnamese First Alumina Plant Order

Marubeni Corporation announced on Tuesday the firm received an order for the first alumina refining plant construction in Vietnam. Marubeni cooperated with an engineering subsidiary of Chalco (Aluminum Corporation of China) and co-received a 50 billion yen order from Vinacomin Group (Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group). The construction will complete in 2010.The plant will be constructed in Lam Dong Province, 200 kilometers north from Ho Chi Minh, with output capacity at 600,000 tonnes per year. Vietnam has exported bauxite. Vinacomin Group has examined construction of a domestic alumina plant to put higher value on the resource.Chalieco (China Aluminum International Engineering), Chalco’s engineering subsidiary, will provide a plant design, procure necessary facilities and construct a plant building. Marubeni will support Chalieco through the order reception, the contract performance, advises on related procedures and material procurement. Marubeni will also provide Vinacomin an advisory service.Vinacomin appreciated Marubeni’s plant related activities in Vietnam, a long relationship between Vinacomin and Marubeni through coal and equipment dealings as well as Chalieco’s engineering technology and cost competitiveness.
