Sumitomo Metals to Expand Special Grade Tube Output, Menu

Sumitomo Metal Industries tries to expand the output capacity and to develop new products at Steel Tube works in Amagasaki, Hyogo. The firm expands the steam generator tube output capacity by 30% to annual 770-780 tonnes in the year. The firm also expands the annual output capacity of high alloy oil well tube by 10% by fiscal 2011 ending March 2012 from current 19,000 tonnes to meet strong worldwide demand. The firm tries to develop new materials to apply to ultra super critical boilers’ tube for next generation plant and integrated coal gasification combined cycle. The firm also tries to commercialize steam generator tube with better performance for next generation nuclear power plant. The Steel Tube works posted 115.9 billion yen of sales in fiscal 2007. The plant ships 43% of the products for oil and gas development while the plant supplies the 32% for power generation and 25% for petroleum refinery, petrochemical and mechanical tube applications. The firm built new plant in Steel Tube works in 2007 to expand the output capacity of ultra super critical boilers’ tube to annual 24,000 tonnes. The firm also expands the output through tie-up with Kobe Steel by using the capacity of Kobe Steel’s subsidiary, Kobe Special Tube.
