Japan to Ship Record 17,000 tonnes of Titanium in 2004
Japanese titanium shipment is expected to reach record in 2004. The rolled products shipment increased by 27% to 12,904 tonnes in January-September from same period of last year. The annualized shipment increases to 17,000 tonnes exceeding previous record at 14,481 tonnes in 2002. Demand is expanding for industrial applications, especially in China. Japanese sponge titanium shipment could reach 26,000 tonnes in 2004 when airplane demand is recovering.
China has a lot of construction projects of chemical and electrolysis plants and power stations to meet increasing demand under rapid growth of the economy. Countries in Near and Middle East have many projects of seawater desalting plants. Rolled titanium shipment increases by 50% compared with a year earlier for those projects.
Titanium demand is also recovering for airplane after depression in a couple of years. The materials of sponge titanium shipment increased by 39% to 19,555 tonnes in January-September. The annualized shipment increases to 26,000 tonnes exceeding previous record in 2001.
