Nippon Mining & Metal Strengthens Copper Business Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd., which has the domestic biggest copper smelting business, secures big returns as the result that the firm had promptly worked on powerful mine investment of foreign countries. At the same time, the firm focuses on the productivity increasing in Japan, and aims at strengthening the copper business in both Japan and overseas. About the improvement of the custom ore of copper, the firm makes judgements that the current state is only returned to optimum levels though the custom ore condition was improved from 40 dollars per tonnes of the worst in the past to 60 dollars per tonnes.
About increase of overseas investment returns, the foreign operation is estimated to be 60 percent of the current profit in the mid-term business performance for this September in the firm.
As for the firm's investments of technology and resource development in the future, the firm is developing the wet smelting that makes bare metal from copper concentrate and the biotechnology smelting to be made from crude ore. The development of the wet smelting might be promoted in the second half of this mid-term.
