Kobe Steel’s Aluminium & Copper Unit Earns 10% more Profit
Kobe Steel’s aluminium and copper unit earned around 10% more operating profit with 2% more sales in April-June against original estimate thanks to firm demand for can materials under hot summer. The unit expects the boom keeps through first half of fiscal 2004 ending March 2005. The unit tries to increase rolling margin of aluminium can in September to improve profitability.
The unit operates at full capacity for aluminium flat products, extrusion and casting and forging products and copper sheet and strip. Aluminium plate is especially tight for equipments of crystal liquid and semiconductor while demand is firm for fin materials, printing plate and extrusion for automobile. Can materials demand increases in extremely hot summer.
The unit expects to exceed original estimate of 5.5 billion yen of operating profit with 105 billion yen of sales for first half of fiscal 2004 for parent company. The group companies including Sun Aluminum Industries and Shinko-North show good performance.
