Negotiations of Purchasing Copper in the Middle of 2004 Hinges on $62-63 for TC and 6.2-6.3 cents for RC
The negotiations of purchasing copper in the middle of 2004 hinged on $62-63 per tonne for TC (treatment charge) and 6.2-6.3 cents per pound for RC (refining charge). The conditions of purchasing copper that is a smelting side's income recovered from $42-43 per tonne for TC and 4.2-4.3 cents per pound for TC. The deterioration in the conditions, which had continued in each smelting company in Japan since 2000, faced a big turning point. It seems to face the release of decrease in output along with the earnings strengthening in the future.
The supply-demand's easing of ore accelerated in the background of production increase of ore, decline of customers' interest of China and India, and slump of operation at new smelter in Thailand.
Regarding the spot market, TC is at $87 per tonne; and RC is at 8.7cent per pound at the beginning of last week, which recovered to the level of the middle of 2000. The market seems to rise in the future.
