Dowa Mining to increase Recovery Capability of Indium
Dowa Mining announced on Thursday the firm would increase doubles to recovery capability of the indium from the ITO (oxide of indium and tin) scrap, which is the transparent electric conduction film material of a liquid crystal panel. It is expected that the ITO scrap recovery market expand with the increase in liquid crystal panel demand. Consequently, the firm introduce the new equipment into Akita Rare Metal of a wholly owned subsidiary, and it buildup the production capacity to 100 tonnes of a largest-in-the-world scale from 50 tonnes. New equipment will be scheduled to be completed at the end of August and to start operation from October.

According to the Display Search in USA, board-of-inquiry company, the world markets of thin shape television in which the liquid crystal display and the plasma display were carried are expected to increase in number this year from about 5 million sets last year to 12 million sets. The supply and demand of ITO which is transparent electric conduction film material have been tight, and sputtering target material makers, such as Nikko Material Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Kinzoku Co., Ltd. are advancing respectively large equipment reinforcement.
