Japan Major Steels Post Big Gains for April-June
Nippon Steel, JFE Holdings, Sumitomo Metal Industries and Kobe Steel posted big gains for April-June by Thursday. They kept high-level steel production with higher steel price under firm demand at home and abroad. Nippon Steel increased the consolidated recurring profit to 3.2 times at 153.1 billion yen for April-June from same period of 2004. JFE Holdings posted 116.6 billion yen of recurring profit while Sumitomo Metals posted 63 billion yen and Kobe Steel posted 41.7 billion yen of the profit. They kept the original half-year targets though they achieved more than 50% in the quarter against the first half targets.
