Nippon Steel Expects Higher Domestic Steel Demand
Nippon Steel revised the estimate of Japanese steel consumption and expects it is 74.55 million tonnes in fiscal 2005 ending March 2006, around 1.3 million tonnes more than the original estimate in April. The firm expects the consumption will increase by around 1.1 million tonnes for carbon steel and by around 200,000 tones for special steel from the original estimate when the steel demand will increase for manufacturers and building. The total volume increases by 1.4 million tonnes from high-level in fiscal 2004 and increases for 3 consecutive years. The firm also expects the steel consumption will be 18.64 million tonnes in July-September, up by 540,000 tonnes from April-June and 280,000 tonnes from same period of fiscal 2004 under firm manufacturing activities and seasonal boom of construction demand.
