Japan's Crude Steel Production to Increase by 1.7% to 112.89 Million Tonnes
The amount of the crude steel production in Japan in fiscal 2004, the year that ends in March 2005, increased to 112.89 million tonnes by 1.7% over the previous fiscal year because the steel demand for domestic and overseas uses was good according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation that announced on April 19 2005. It became the high level after 25 years. The production exceeded 100 million tones for 5 consecutive years. It was the 4th highest level in the past following fiscal 1973 (120.02 million tonnes), fiscal 1974 (114.03 million tonnes), and fiscal 1979 (113.01 million tonnes). The production of the hot rolled steel products also hit the second high following fiscal 1990 in the past.
