Tokyo's Ferrous Scrap Market to Rise by 1,000 yen per Tonne From Last Week
The ferrous scrap market in the Tokyo area, Eastern Japan, became on the continued rise by 1,000 yen per tonne from last week, which recovered to the level in the beginning of November 2004. There is some possibility that the market will rise further depending on production by the electric furnace steel makers in the area. The prices of the second wholesalers who supply processed ferrous scrap to electric furnace steel makers became about 17,000 yen per tonne for H2 whose thickness is 3-6 millimeters, the benchmark scrap, up 4,500 yen per tonne or 36% from this February when the market hit the bottom. Since Utsunomiya plant in Eastern Japan of Tokyo Steel Manufacturing raised the ferrous scrap purchase price sharply, the other electric furnace steel makers also raised the prices. Furthermore, the first wholesalers' purchase price rose, too.
