Arcelor Lets a New Stainless Steel Mill Work in Belgium in September 2005 at the Earliest
Arcelor will let a new stainless mill under construction work in Belgium this September at the earliest and close the steel mill in France. Upstream process in the European area is consolidated in two factories of Belgium by a series of the firm's reorganization. It is a large reduction of the cost including the transportation costs. The new mill operates at 2.6 million tonnes as the annual production by the latest steel making facility in Belgium and Brazil in 2006. Furthermore, the firm is building the steel mill of one million tonnes in the annual production scale on which the investment at 240 million euro is spent at Carinoccs, and it has the electric furnace of 180 tonnes, and the firm aims at starting the operation at the factory this September-October. After Carinoccs becomes full operation in 18 months, the factory in France, whose annual production scale at 450,000 tonnes, will be closed. Steel making ability in Europe will increase to 2.1 million tonnes as the annual output.
