Nippon Steel to Join Wakayama's JV of Sumitomo Metals & CSC
Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Industries announced on Friday they agreed to seek opportunity to make use of steel source at Wakayama works of Sumitomo Metals. Nippon Steel will have interests in East Asia United Steel Corporation, which was established by Sumitomo Metals and China Steel of Taiwan after Sumitomo Metals split off Wakayama works. They will start the new cooperation as early as April. They try to secure and expand steel source by making use of existing facilities to meet strong steel demand while they expect their cooperation has better flexibility for potential change in balance of supply and demand. They also consider further cooperation with Kobe Steel.
