Japanese Steel Supply and Demand Gap to 5 million tonnes
In recently, Japan Metal Bullitten held an interview to Kiichiro Masuda, Nippon Steel Director, and Japanese major blast furnace maker. He said that domestic crude-steel-production in the 1st quarter (April-June) actual result of this fiscal year increased to 28.23 million tonnes by 300,000 tonnes over the same period in the last year. It is expected that the level of the crude steel production in the 2nd quarter become high as 28.60 tonnes by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry prospects. In an actual result in July, it rose a little more than 3% from the corresponding month of the last year. He said that the crude production in the first half of this fiscal year will reach before and after 56.70 million tonnes as assumption which increase by 1.3 million tonnes over the same period of the last year, and the increase pace of an annual rate of 2.5 million tonnes or more. He said that each maker is continuing full production and it in this fiscal year will be 0a level with 114 million tonnes as hard as possible up by 3 million tonnes over the last fiscal year.

He said that the demand scale in a natural posture also including export now has reached the level of 120 million tonnes of annually adjusted bases with the crude steel base. He said that the limit of the production is at 114 million tonnes, the supply and demand gap become 5 million tonnes in an annual rate. His firm can not respond to some requests, He said that his firm is asking it of consumer the adjustment of the time for delivery and quantity or the device of the order specification for heightening manufacturing capacity.

The amount of the steel-materials export in Japan in the 2002 fiscal year was 36 million tonnes. It remained in 35 million tonnes in the 2003 fiscal year because the restrictions of domestic demand recovery and the steel productive capacity. Although he said that it is not amusing even if there is a 40 million tonnes export scale if the Japanese material ratio occupied to appearance consumption of East Asia is regarded as 7-8% as before, probably, it in this fiscal year cannot but decrease further actually over the last year. His company gives priority to a domestic industrial field fundamentally.
