BHP Billiton to raise shipping capacity of iron ore to annual 150 million tonnes
BHP Billiton plans to investigate to increase shipping capacity of iron ore in Western Australia to annual 150 million tonnes and over. The firm hopes to expand it to 120 million tonnes in this year. The firm plans to increase capacity and develop new mine in response to rise of demand, as iron ore demand in the world is expected to increase by 100 million tonnes in several years.
BHP Billiton increased annual shipping capacity of iron ore in Western Australia from 80 million tonnes to 100 million tonnes in February 2004. And the firm plans to expand by 10 million tonnes to 110 million tonnes by the end of 2004, to increase MAC by 8 million tonnes to 23 million tonnes per year.
For the present, BHP Billiton is advancing investigation of getting in operation for increase of annual 145 million tonnes, and the firm hopes to decide a plan increasing to 120 million tonnes in two years. And the firm strengthens capacity of harbor by 10 million tonnes and increases all operation by 10 million tonnes in two years to develop new mine lot of joint venture business of Mount Newman.
Moreover, the firm would decide a plan increasing by 25 million tonnes from 145 million tonnes in the middle of 2005.
