BHP Billiton Increase Iron Ore Shipment of West Australia
BHP Billiton increases the iron ore shipment of West Australia in 2005 fiscal year (term ended June, 2005) by 22.3% compared with last year to 108 million tonnes. The firm completed the construction that extends the shipment capability in February 2004 in 100 million tones per year, and has started the plan to re-extend to 110 million tonnes by 2004 ends of the year. The shipment actual result in August already became 8.2 million tonnes, and reached an annual rate of 9.84 million tonnes. The firm is advancing the feasibility study towards the shipment capability that is 145 million tonnes per year as the following target, and is planning to expand shipment further, discerning the growth of steel demand.The firm completed the productive capacity extension plan (PACE) in February 2004. The productive capacity of an iron ore stone is increasing in the standup of the mining area C that newly developed yearly outputs (MAC) at 15 million tonnes per year. In addition, the firm established the 4th berth in Head Land harbor of a port of shipment newly, and increased loading capability. Moreover, The firm increased the double-tracked portion on the Newman railroad of single track, and extended transportation capability, and the shipment capability has already reached in 100 million tonnes per year including the share of the other company.
The firm is advancing the feasibility study towards annual shipment capability at 145 million tonnes in the next large-scale extension plan.
That plan to extend to 110 million tonnes by 2004 ends of the year is the 1st cartridge. By the crusher of MAC, and the sifting institution extension, the firm expands the yearly output capability to 23 million tonnes by 8 million tonnes. The firm increases shipment capability by accumulating at the inventory yard of Head Land harbor, and updating equipment, and double-tracking a part of railroad of YANDI.
As the 2nd step, the firm extends the maximum yearly outputs of MAC to 40 million tonnes. The firm has the plan that the development and extension of the mining area contiguous to the Whale Back mine, the firm's prime mine, in the Newman area, a railroad, an inventory yard, or a loading institution etc. The firm expects to extend to a maximum of 145 million tonnes by 2008.
