Kobe Steel to increase production systems of Kobe, Kakogawa Works
Kobe Steel announced on Thursday it would substantially increase production system of Kobe Woks and Kakogawa Works with the strengthening of supply system of products and high grade steel, and a mid- to long-term cost competitive power. Kobe Woks will establish bloom-casting machine (No.5 casting machine) and improve No.3 blast furnaces. Kakogawa Works will expand and improve No.2 blast furnaces that is sopped now, and switch to No.1 blast furnaces. It is planned to be invested at 8.5 billion yen for Kobe Woks, and 40 billion yen for Kakogawa Works. Bloom-casting machine will be completed in September 2006, and new No.2 blast furnaces in Kakogawa Works is March 2007. They will start in response to the situation of No.1 blast furnaces. Kobe Steel plans to increase the operating base furthermore.
Kobe Woks that is a base of supply of high grade special steel, will be important since demand for automobile continue to rise steadily, and it is expected automobile production to boost in Asia area mainly China from now.
