Sumitomo Metal Industries Raise the Contract Prices for Plate to 55,000 yen
Sumitomo Metal Industries improves contract prices for plate of Japanese Shipbuilding Company. The firm will raise the price by about 5,000 yen per tonne in October 2004 and by 10,000 yen in April 2005. Consequently, the firm will raise the price to 55,000 yen. Moreover, the firm speeds up the restructuring of a domestic extra system. The contract price for plate of China is at FOB 650$ and is temporarily over 1,000$ because of stringency of plate supply and demand in Asia, especially short supply of high level material.
The export price for major shipbuilding of South Korea is at FOB 600$ with the contract in the latter half of the year. The export price for domestic also recovered 60,000 yen per tonne.
The supply and demand of the plate in Asia is expected to be stringent until 2008, and the order ship value of each shipbuilding company also is recovering. For this reason, the firm
improves the price for domestic shipbuilding for real, and works on restructuring about the extra system of the size and the steel type that collapsed in fact at no demand period.
