Crude steel output plan in July-September to be 28.509 million tonnes
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced a total result of iron and steel production plan in July-September of fiscal 2004 on Friday. Crude steel output increases by 1% or 287,000 tonnes from the previous period and by 3.7% or 1 million and 8,000 tonnes from the same period for the year before. It is below 28.6 million tonnes estimated by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry by 0.3% or 91,000 tonnes. Though blast furnace manufactures plan to increase the outputs by some 980,000 tonnes from the previous period, electric furnaces steel manufactures for ordinary steel decrease some 560,000 tonnes and special steel falls around 140,000. Both blast furnaces steel plant and special steel plant are almost operated at the full capacity. Exports will boost compared with the previous period since Japanese firms in China and South East Asia need them. Outputs of plate are expected to be raised by 104,000 tonnes from the previous period to 2.846 million tonnes.
Crude steel output increase from the previous period for two periods in a row, and from the same period of last year for three periods in a row. If it will transit as plan, it in first half of fiscal 2004 will rise by 2% from the previous period to 56.721 million tonnes.
As for ordinary steel, total output is 20.62 million tonnes (up 1.3% or 262,000 tonnes from the previous period), it for Japan is 14.84 million tonnes (up 1.3% or 185,000 tonnes) and it for export is 5.78 million tonnes (up 1.4% or 77,000 tonnes).
As for H beam, total output is 1.212 million tonnes (down 6.7% or 87,000 tonnes from the previous period), it for Japan is 1.15 million tonnes (down 6% or 74,000 tonnes) and it for export is 63,000 tonnes (down 4.5% or 3,000 tonnes).
As for steel bar, total output is 2.855 million tonnes (down 6.1% or 184,000 tonnes from the previous period).
As for special steel, total output is 4.916 million tonnes (up 0.8% or 40,000 tonnes from the previous period), it for Japan is 3.425 million tonnes (down 0.9% or 32,000 tonnes) and it for export is 1.491 million tonnes (up 5% or 70,000 tonnes).
