Crude steel production of first half of 2004 is 55.8 million tonnes
According to crude steel production in Japan of a first half of 2004, it increased by 1.4% for a year earlier to 55.79 million tonnes. It was the fifth-highest level in past first half result. It was on the ground of firmer movement of export for Asia and active production of manufacture for automobile, shipbuilding and increased domestic consumption by rapid recovery of private construction, and the tight-money policy by Beijing has not affected the result.
Converter steel increased 1.8% to 40.85 million tonnes and electric furnace steel rose by 0.3% to 14.93 million tonnes. By kind of steel, ordinary steel dropped by 0.3% to 44.06 million tonnes, special steel boost by 8.3% to 11.72 million tonnes.
Estimates for demand of crude steel on July-September are 28.6 million tonnes. If the demand of October-December will also keep same level as on July-September and the production will overtakes it, the production of 2004 will reach some 113 million tonnes and it will be third-highest level.
crude steel production on June increase by 0.9% from the same month a year before to 9.4 million tonnes. Converter steel rose by 0.6% to 6.84 million tonnes, electric furnace steel increased by 1.9% to 2.56 million tonnes. By kind of steel, ordinary steel decreased by 0.5% to 7.42 million tonnes, special steel rose by 6.5% to 1.97 million tonnes. Special steel is an increase for 26 months in a row.
On April-June, it increased by 1% to 28.21 million tonnes. Converter steel boost by 0.5% to 20.36 million tonnes, electric furnace steel increased by 2.5% to 7.85 million tonnes. Ordinary steel fell by 0.3% to 22.35 million tonnes, special steel increased by 6.6% to 5.85 million tonnes.
