The Japan Society of Corrosion Engineering (JSCE) is a technical society devoted
exclusively to scientific and technical activities relating to corrosion and corrosion
protection. The objectives of JSCE include encouragement of research, exchange
and diffusion of knowledge and information, solution of corrosion problems and
promotion of education in this field. The society publishes a monthly journal,
organizes meetings for presentation and discussion of research and of technical
problems, sponsors symposia and lectures on specific topics, offers corrosion
courses, maintains technical committees for the solution of important problems
and presents awards in recognition of outstanding work.

society provides an academic journal, "Materials Science and Technology"
bimonthly. Although the journal is basically described in Japanese, English papers

The Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ), a governmental body involved with metal
supplies, wishes to provide information on the mineral resources of Asia to potential
private investors - major exploration companies, junior companies and others -
in order to facilitate new private investment in the region. The speakers, largely
exploration geologists with extensive experience across Asia, will review the
metallogeny, mineral deposits and potential for exploration and development across
the region - from Far East Russia to Iran, and Kazakhstan to the Philippines.
The regulatory and investment climate will also be touched upon. Senior managers
from industry will close the Forum with a discussion of the practicalities of
working in Asia.

Technology (the new AIST) has begun operations. The AIST is a newborn research

in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and The Weights and Measures
Training Institute. The new AIST is the Japan's largest public research organizations
with research facilities on scale, and around 3,200 employees including the authorities.
